#ITSAPROCESS
Well, I guess I’m back. I didn’t mean to DEPART FROM THE BLOGOSHPHERE or even use the word “blogosphere”; it was just one of those things. A writing about anything not related to comics slump became a writing about anything slump became even, I’m embarrassed to say, a tweeting slump. It happens, and I have the overstuffed drafts folder to prove it.
Until recently I was working two jobs (one at a theme park box office that I just left, the other at my beloved local comic shop where I’ll still be working for the time being), which was more all-consuming than I had anticipated (but certainly preferable to the unending period of unemployment/shoddy freelance employment that preceded it). The work served its purpose, and I’m finally financially secure enough to do what I’ve been trying to do for roughly a year and a half, which is move to New York.
Longtime Los Angeles apologist though I remain, after spending nearly all of my life here it’s time for a change, and I won’t pretend that having my boyfriend and partner in [lately neglected] comics blogging living on the other side of the continent didn’t make for a pretty persuasive pull factor as well. Onward and outward. To the planets, McCabe! Go Wiest, young man. It’s all pretty exciting, and it means I’ll be listening to the theme from Valley of the Dolls a lot in the coming weeks. It’s an old-fashioned impulse, to move across the country to the [other] big city following the siren calls of Love and New Horizons and Making Something Of Myself and other romantic notions that make me wistful about the dissolution of NASA’s manned spaceflight program, despite wholly rational arguments for it.
Transitions and fresh starts, at the beginning of a calendar year, no less. Hopefully you’ll be seeing some more actual writing (with PARAGRAPHS) from me in the near future. And I can’t wait to pick fights on the East Coast by announcing that Los Angeles actually consumes more hot dogs than any other city in the United States.*
